響應台中市政府8年100萬棵植樹計畫，國際扶輪3461地區今日結合市府社會局、科技部中部科學園區管理局舉辦植樹活動，600多位民眾在中科管理局后里園區七星基地滯洪池旁綠地，種植烏心石、毛柿、苦楝及羅漢松等600株苗木，推展植樹風氣。
台中市副市長張光瑤今天出席與民眾一起種樹，他說，為了對抗全球氣候變遷，同時改善空氣品質，今天扶輪社舉辦的植樹活動非常有意義，市府全力支持。台中市今年將舉辦2018台中世界花卉博覽會，也邀請大家一起共襄盛舉。
立委洪慈庸表示，植樹除了可以美化生活環境，還能調節氣候、豐富土壤、減碳等許多好處，所以活動前她也積極協助向中科后里園區協調這塊綠地，希望政府與民間企業一起達成減碳、減排的目標，共同為環境盡一分心力。
國際扶輪社長伊恩萊斯禮(Ian H.S.Riseley)說，為了能綠化環境，提出「一人一樹救地球」的目標，因此透過總監童瑞龍規劃地區服務計畫，每位社員在年度內應至少種植一棵樹。
台中市社會局表示，「前人種樹，後人乘涼」，鼓勵民間團體響應8年100萬棵植樹計畫，並呼應台中花博的綠色、自然與人文精神，期待讓台中市能成為綠色城市，讓下一代在更好的環境中成長。
